Exerce suas atividades no Programa de P\u00f3s-Gradua\u00e7\u00e3o em Antropologia Social do Museu Nacional (PPGAS\/MN\/UFRJ) desde 1970.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Foi assessor da Confedera\u00e7\u00e3o Nacional dos Trabalhadores na Agricultura (CONTAG) entre 1978 e 1989 e diretor de Recursos Fundi\u00e1rios do Instituto Nacional de Coloniza\u00e7\u00e3o e Reforma Agr\u00e1ria (julho de 1985-julho de 1986). Como pesquisador, durante os anos de 1970 e 1980, desenvolveu estudos sobre as transforma\u00e7\u00f5es contempor\u00e2neas da plantation a\u00e7ucareira no Nordeste brasileiro e sobre as mobiliza\u00e7\u00f5es camponesas nos anos que se seguiram ao golpe militar de 1964. No in\u00edcio dos anos 2000, realizou, junto com outros cientistas sociais, uma extensa investiga\u00e7\u00e3o sobre os assentamentos de reforma agr\u00e1ria no Brasil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Coordenou o projeto \u201cMem\u00f3ria Camponesa\u201d, voltado para o registro visual e sonoro de depoimentos de l\u00edderes e militantes das lutas anteriores a 1964 e daquelas do per\u00edodo de resist\u00eancia ao regime militar. \u00c9 tamb\u00e9m um dos respons\u00e1veis pelo projeto Sociedade e Economia do Agroneg\u00f3cio. A partir do final dos anos 1980, tem estado voltado para o estudo da pol\u00edtica de uma perspectiva antropol\u00f3gica. Entre 1998 e 2005, dirigiu o projeto \u201cUma Antropologia da Pol\u00edtica: rituais, representa\u00e7\u00f5es e viol\u00eancia\u201d, reunindo pesquisadores da UFRJ, da Universidade Federal do Cear\u00e1 e da Universidade de Bras\u00edlia.
